WordPress 6.1 “Misha” was launched on November 1, 2022. This is the third major release in 2022, following WordPress 5.9 Josephine and WordPress 6.0 Arturo. The latest version presents several core modifications, bug fixes, and backport changes.

The WordPress 6.1 update is related to the Gutenberg project phase two. As a result, you can get multiple block editor enhancements and the new “Twenty-Three” default theme with this recently introduced version.

6.1 might be the most effective WordPress version yet. I will tell you how.

What Makes WordPress 6.1 Interesting?

Improved Template Options

The release allows you to use two new template features – Page and Single Item: Post. WordPress 6.1 streamlines the template creation process by implementing relevant patterns automatically. Thus, you need not start from the beginning.

When a user adds the Single Item: Post template, it will begin with block patterns. It comprises post content, template elements like header and footer, and comments query loop. The user can then customize the layout or design.

Now, you can also add the template to a specific item or all of them. Let me give you an example. If you add an author template, you can choose whether it will apply to all authors or a single one.

Additionally, you also get the option to develop tailored templates for Author, Category, and Single Item: Post. What’s more? The latest version offers the Custom template option. Using it, you can build a new template for any page or post and see a pattern just like the post template. The WordPress 6.1 update allows you to reconstruct it as per the content type.

Content-Only Editing

This recently introduced WordPress version facilitates content-only block editing through the templateLock feature for the group, cover, and column blocks. You can then lock the layout of the content while writing or editing it. Patterns facilitate the practical use of content-only editing.

Let me give you an example. In case a pattern utilizes a group block to contain multiple blocks, you can add the templateLock feature to the pattern’s code and then set it to “contentOnly”. This pattern will now be active on the latest Gutenberg WordPress editor resulting in the removal of design tools from the sidebar panel.

You can view a list of the content blocks instead and freely edit the content.
Also, you can disable “content-only editing” temporarily using the Modify option. It is available on the group block’s toolbar. After it is disabled, you can use all layout and design attributes. Once finished, click on Done to enable content-only editing again.

Twenty Twenty-Three Default Theme

Just like WordPress 5.9, the latest version introduces Twenty Twenty-Three, a new default block theme, which comes pre-loaded with eleven theme styles. Using this theme, you can change the typography and color scheme conveniently. Use the global styles switcher feature for this. You can also take the help of professional WordPress website development services for the best results and also, bug fixes, if any.

If the pre-defined theme styles don’t appeal to you, WordPress 6.1 offers an array of options for greater customization. The typography part also improves with this update. Now, you get a lot more font family controls that are present across all eleven styles. Thus, you can mix and match the typography more freely.

Enhanced Block Locking

With this top-notch attribute, you can be assured that your content blocks won’t be moved or deleted accidentally. It can be extremely time-consuming though to lock a nested block as then you have to lock all separate blocks.

The new features of WordPress can resolve this problem with a major improvement which lets you implement block locking to all aspects inside a group block.

Updated Quote and List Blocks

The quote and list blocks will now have inner blocks that will allow users for more content flexibility. You can get the block inserter in the quote block. This feature lets you add a block in the quoted content. All you need to do is press the “add block (+)” icon.

Why is this feature helpful? Let me explain. You can incorporate a heading block and then write the content below it. This improvement also enables you to add an image in the quote block. If you find it difficult, remember, you can always take help from custom WordPress development services.

With various blocks available, you can rearrange the inner content more smoothly than before. There are also block-moving tools present in the toolbar. These let you shift a block up or down. WordPress 6.1 offers users a nested block structure as the “List” block now considers the items as individual blocks.

Thus, you can now remove or rearrange list items more easily, which leads to a more streamlined workflow. You can also see the nested structure from the block list view.

Design Tools Consistency

WordPress 6.1 version comes with enhancements in design tools. You can now utilize the block editor for more customization options. Overall, it lets you conveniently access certain tools for a particular block.

In this new update, 50+ blocks have typography and color tools. 40+ blocks contain dimension tools, and 30 possess all three.

Updated Preview Button

In this update, the “Preview” button is renamed as “View”. However, it still functions the same. There are lots of options available for users that can now choose between mobile, tablet, and desktop views. They can open the preview in a new tab.

However, there is still a big difference. You can now access the “View site” feature that is present in the site editor. It will then open a new tab for your website, unlike earlier when you had to put your URL in a new tab manually, or re-access the dashboard to explore your website.

This is one of the key highlights of WordPress 6.1, also known as “Misha”. If you hire WordPress website development services for your project, first ensure they know how to use this new version.

New Preference Option

There is another remarkable feature available for WordPress users. They can access the “Always open list view” attribute. For this, they have to press the “Options” button first, which is present at the top-right side of the editor. It is followed by selecting “Preferences”. When used, the list view will open by default as soon as a user accesses the block editor.

These exciting features will allow for an even greater user experience. To use WordPress for your website the best way, get in touch with professional custom WordPress development services.
