I’m starting 2024 with some exciting news! After many years of studying and training, I’ve just received news that I qualified as a psychotherapeutic counsellor. This supplements my existing qualifications in psychology and professional coach mentoring. Kim Tasso qualifies as a psychotherapeutic counsellor.
Setting up a psychotherapeutic counselling practice
I have upgraded my membership of the National Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy NCPS | Counselling Matters (nationalcounsellingsociety.org) and can now use the designation MNCPS (Acc).
My intention is to provide face-to-face sessions in Central London (I am reviewing suitable counselling rooms to hire) but in the meantime I am providing online sessions. And face-to-face sessions near Twickenham. Further details are at: Tasso Talking Therapy
I qualified as an integrative counsellor – which means my training, practice and experience draws on a variety of therapeutic traditions (Person-centred, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Existential etc) depending on the needs of my clients.
Initially, my practice will be for adults experiencing mental health challenges such as:
- Low mood and depression
- Anxiety and stress
- Bereavement and loss
- Relationship difficulties and breakdown
- Narcissistic abuse
- Diagnosis of life changing physical and mental illness
- Childhood trauma (and Complex PTSD)
- Emotional regulation and maturity
- Significant life changes (e.g. employment and career changes)
- A sense of purpose
- Desire for change
Psychology/Counselling qualifications
My journey to psychotherapy has been a long one! My first degree – way back in 1983 – was a British Psychological Society (BPS) approved psychology degree. Since then I have qualified in a variety of psychological disciplines including psychometrics and professional coach/mentoring.
I completed levels 2 and 3 counselling qualifications in 2014 and completed a year of a level 5 qualification and then took a break. After Covid, I started on the final Level 4 two-year qualification at Heartwood. This included a two-year placement (over 100 hours of supervised clinical practice) at a local low cost and long term psychotherapy and counselling organisation in Richmond – RCPS (richmond-counselling-psychotherapy.com). I continue to volunteer at this service.
I am qualified to practice now although I will continue to study specialist areas of psychotherapy as times goes on.
